Kimberly also served for over two decades as a high school social studies teacher, focusing on political science and civics education. In her first year of teaching, she was selected at the “Outstanding First Year Teacher – Secondary Education” for the Long Beach Unified School District, the third largest school district in California. In addition, she was recognized by Ashland Oil, Inc., as one of the top 100 teachers in Ohio and was a candidate for the State of Ohio Teacher of the Year. During this time, she also worked for the State of Ohio Supreme Court as an educational facilitator and for the College Board as a member of the national curriculum development and assessment committee for AP US Government & Politics and traveled the country as an educational presenter in political science education.

Kimberly is a nationally published subject matter expert in high school and college political science curriculum and continues to serve as a consultant for private educational organizations and state departments of education. Raised as an, “Air Force Brat,” she is active with various veterans organizations and politically active organizations. She enjoys traveling and has visited all 50 states. She remarked, “When I visited Alaska, I had the opportunity to be a Musher Handler for my friend Matt, who is an Iditarod Musher. It was such an amazing experience to be a part of the crew that lead his team of dogs to the starting line of the 2014 Iditarod.” She enjoys reading (and wants to read every book published about her favorite American, James Madison), spending time with family and friends, engaging in political discussions, traveling to national parks, monuments, and memorials, and hanging out with her dog, Xander, who is named after one of her favorite founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton.
